Two things… after seeing the career aspirations?? of students who outshined the recent results made me write this postAll good scorers in Tenth standard would like to take computer science group in plus one
All good scorers in Twelfth standard would like purse Computer engineering and become a software engineer! So far we all are getting into a understanding that education is to get a job and job is to get money… and once we have money in life … we are stable… but just having to come through this stream … do we really stop with that… we want more and more… … be it money… or success in corporate ladder… pride… what if we are suddenly hit by something which we do not expect…. Are we ready to face it? We still encourage our next generation to follow the same path of what we did some few years before…. Almost all the farmers son during my batch are well settled in US/Bangalore wearing tag for XYZ Corporation. What about the future of those farmed/unfarmed lands? Who is going to takeover it for tomorrow?
Today education system is more of a job oriented manufacturing system, which only prepares students competent enough to be a part of the emerging IT industry. I dont see any encouragement for course like Agriculture.
I will list some course which are still available in many universities with very little admissions... but truly speaking do we have jobs for these coursesAnthropologyArcheologyHumanitieshow many of us encourage our kids for courses likeB.sc Agriculture, Tourism Management, Environmental Awareness, Social Workthe entire industry has to take its turn to see the change in the academia... till then we will have students rushing into the stream of engineering where they get a 5 digit salary as thier first pay, this will not stop and having said that are we prepared for life to face any of bitter experiences? Are we bothered about creating a peaceful society? We all earn for our living and what if there is financial crisis/war?
I am not being pesimisstic but how are we going to deal with a sudden change like this? How many of us still have the identity of our local communities from where we came from? How many of us are atleast proud to say that I am from this part of country rather than saying.. I visited Las Vegas.. I went to Chicago… do we really bothered to see a boom in eco-centrism rather than closely watching rise in the economy like BSE…. We need to understand few things… life is more than just computers… internet … life is beyond job… salary.. perks.... appraisals.. onsite opportunities… and education is not only a means to procure a job which gives all of the above… we are part of the nature… we all live as chain…. Slowly there is a something fading in human relations and the relation between man and the nature…. I know am wandering topics between.. Education system… preserving trees… emerging IT…. Humanity…. But I don’t see them as individual topics… anything and everything in the world are inter-related… There is no doubt that we will continue to have huge projects with challenging deadlines all at our desk .. but I really doubt if we would have people to care and support… water to drink and air to breathe if this kind of job oriented manufacturing (education) system continues…..
